Jois out for Northport with Achilles tendon rupture

VENKY Jois is declared out for Northport for the rest of the PBA Governors Cup after suffering a partial Achilles tendon rupture in the team's previous game against Meralco.

Sydney Talabis, the physical therapist of the Batang Pier, bared the bad news on Thursday just a day before the team returns to the court to face the Magnolia Hotshots.

Renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. George Canlas will operate on the 31-year-old import on Friday.

"After a series of tests, lumabas na rin yung result and it's unfortunate na high grade yung partial Achilles tendon rupture niya. So kailangan talagang operahan siya," said Talabis of Jois's health condition.

"Sobrang bilis ng pangyayari."

Currently, Jois is walking with crutches before his right foot will be put in a splint shortly after the operation.

The Australian import went down with the injury early in the Northport-Meralco game after bumping on Allen Durham while going for a shot.

Venky later said he couldn't feel anything on his right foot following the fall. He was later taken out of the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on a stretcher.

He was shut down off the season with Northport fighting for dear life for a berth in the playoffs with a 3-5 record.

It was the second tour of duty for Venky at Northport after playing for the franchise in the last Commissioner's Cup.

At the most, he could be out of action for the next six to seven months, according to Talabis. (RG)
