Lassiter, Lee shoot the lights out on a special PBA weekend

MARCIO Lassiter and Paul Lee solidified their stakes as among the best marksmen in PBA history following a memorable shooting spree in the Philippine Cup over the weekend.

Lassiter is now sitting at no. 4 in the all-time list of most three point shots made after burying a total of nine 3s in back-to-back games for San Miguel at the Philsports Arena.

The 36-year-old gunner hit 5-of-10 from three-point range to spark a huge 51-point third quarter explosion of the Beermen in a 112-103 win over Converge FiberXers on Friday, and then went 4-of-5 from the same area two days later in a 120-100 blowout of Northport Batang Pier.

His 9-of-15 three-point shooting in San Miguel's last two games allowed him to surpass two-time MVP James Yap at fourth place overall with a total of 1,197, while breathing down on the neck of Barangay Ginebra's LA Tenorio, who currently occupies third place with 1,211.

Retired greats Jimmy Alapag and Allan Caidic are the top 2 in the list, with 1,250 and 1,242, respectively.

"Just to be in the same breath of the legends that there were before me, even to be in the same platform, these are the guys I've played with, some of them, you know. I looked up to them when I was in my rookie year and coming up," said Lassiter of the feat.

"Truly blessed and thankful for that."

Over at the Tiaong Convention Center in Quezon on Saturday, Lee also made his mark by becoming the latest player to hit the 1,000 three-point shot mark.

Lee, 35, reached the milestone in the fourth quarter of Magnolia's 108-102 win over Rain or Shine. It was the only three pointer he made as he finished with a 1-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.

In doing so, the Magnolia guard became the 10th player of the elite 1,000 three-point shot made club, but the fifth fastest to reach the mark in terms of number of games played, according to PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III.(RG)
