Black tapped to call shots for Gilas SEAG team

MERALCO coaching consultant Norman Black will have another stint as national coach, taking the rein for Gilas in the Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand in December.

Black is taking over from coach Tim Cone, calling the shots for Team Philippines to be bannered by Justin Brownlee, Ange Kouame and possibly Gilas players playing in Korea and Japan, if they're available.

The PBA board of governors, in a meeting Wednesday, approved limited number of players for the SEAG campaign since PBA Season 50 is ongoing then.

Highly unlikely to be available for the Gilas SEAG team are Gilas mainstays June Mar Fajardo, CJ Perez, Jamie Malonzo, Chris Newsome, Japeth Aguilar, Calvin Oftana, Scottie Thompson, and even Troy Rosario and RJ Abarrientos.

Black has had earlier tenures as national head coach, steering Team Philippines to a semis showing in the 1994 Hiroshima Asian Games and to a gold-medal feat in the 2011 SEA Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
