THE Philippine Basketball Association disclosed the Zamboaga Valientes and Terrafirma are now in serious talks for the acquisition of the Dyip franchise in time for the league's 50th anniversary celebration.
Commissioner Willie Marcial said the Valientes are in the process of completing the requirements needed to complete the sale of Terrafirma lock, stock, and barrel.
"Sana makasama sila (Valientes) sa 50th anniversary natin. May talks na sila (Valientes and Dyip), alam ko medyo nagkakasundo na sila," said the PBA chief during halftime of the Philippine Cup game between Barangay Ginebra and Northport.
Marcial already asked certain requirements from the Valientes as had been the practice from the past as far as new incoming franchises are concerned.
The Zamboanga Valientes team is owned by Junnie Navarro.

"Kung ano yung natural na hinihingi nating requirements sa mga team, hiningan ko sila (Valientes). Ang sabi niya (Junnie Navarro) kung puwede pag tapos na ng election kasi tumatakbo siya," said Marcial of Navarro, who is seeking a council seat in the second district of Zamboanga City.
The Valientes had sent feelers about joining the PBA as early as the start of the year, according to Marcial.
The team eventually sent its Letter of Intent (LOI) about its interest to acquire the Terrafirma franchise.
Aside from the Valientes, Universal Canning Inc., makers of Family's Brand Sardines and Master Sardines, has also submitted its own LOI to the PBA. (RG)
