Ferrer embraces fresh start at TNT

IN limbo just a season ago, Kevin Ferrer suddenly gets a new lease on life after hooking up with TNT for the PBA golden year.

With the Tropang 5G, the veteran wingman joins a team that has been a perennial title contender and a possible shot at winning another championship.

The 32-year-old former University of Santo Tomas star previously won titles with Barangay Ginebra, but has rarely seen in the playoffs since being traded to Northport and Terrafirma in the last six years.

Now he embraces the new challenge that awaits him.

"Iniisip ko kung paano makatulong sa team and kung paano namin makuha yung W. I will just give may 100 percent commitment and 100 percent me," said Ferrer, who was inked to a season-long contract.

Injury marred most of his two-year stay at Terrafirma, which released him shortly after Season 49.

For the next two months, Ferrer admitted not having any source of income until to his surprise, a call came from TNT deputy coach Josh Reyes.

Aside from TNT, Meralco also took interest in Ferrer, but eventually settled with the Tropang 5G since he previously played for Reyes.

"Isa sa tiningnan ko, naging under na ako kay coach Josh and yung mga nasa paligid nila, kilala ko rin. So mabilis akong makapag-adjust," he said, adding he'll get a chance to be reunited with former Gilas cadet Roger Pogoy at TNT.

Defense and his shooting prowess are what he can offer for the Tropang 5G, who came close to completing a grand slam last season.

"Yung pagiging defensive player ko, yung hustle ko," he said. "Yung shooting siyempre para ma-spread yung floor. You know naman ang TNT leaning sila sa outside shooting."

Ferrer will make his debut in a TNT uniform on Oct. 10 when the Tropang 5G battle the Phoenix Fuel Masters in Ynares Center Montalban.(RG)
