Pogoy, Williams doubtful for Game 1

TNT may be without two of its core players when it battles San Miguel Beer on Sunday at the start of its best-of-seven titular showdown for the coveted Philippine Cup crown.

As of Friday, shooter Roger Pogoy and big man Kelly William remain doubtful for Game 1 with hamstring and ankle injuries, respectively.

"He's doubtful. That's why he could not join us here and our practice this morning. His injury is a day-to-day thing," said TNT Chot Reyes referring to Williams, at the pre-finals presser on Friday at the Chardonnay by Astoria in Pasig.

Williams, the only remnant of TNT's foiled Grand Slam bid in 2011, suffered a right ankle injury in Game 4 of the team's semifinal series against Rain or Shine. The Tropang 5G won that series, 4-2, to keep their grand slam aspirations.

Pogoy, on the other hand, went down with a hamstring injury in Game 2 of the same series.

Also in the injury list are Jayson Castro (knee) and Rey Nambatac (groin). Forward Calvin Oftana is also hurting on both his ankles.

Pogoy said he's still feeling pain in his left hamstring and will know whether he could play in the series opener on Saturday.

"Bukas malalaman kung makakalaro ako. Sa semis palang, gustong-gusto ko na maglaro para matulungan 'yung teammates ko," he said.

Even without Pogoy and Williams, Reyes said the team will be ready to battle against the Bewermen.

"The adversity that we went through this conference is really a testament to the fighting spirit of the players. They just refused to give up. Ayaw talaga bumigay," declared the Reyes.
