Ross eyeing to bring SMB killer instinct in Game 6

CHRIS Ross isn't about to lose a sleep in San Miguel's failure to close out its PBA Philippine Cup title series against TNT.

While losing Game 5 meant giving the Tropang 5G another lease on life, 86-78, Ross said the Beermen still have two chances at winning the championship as they remained in control of the best-of-seven series, 3-2.

Game 6 is on Friday at the Philsports Arena where Ross hopes San Miguel will carry with it the killer instinct that was lacking in Wednesday night's loss at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

"It's alright. It's a series and they're a championship team," said Ross in acknowledging the Tropang 5G's effort to stay alive in the series. "We'll put our best foot forward, make some adjustments, and we'll come out ready to play."

San Miguel made just 32 percent of its shots in its second loss in the finals.

The Beermen were likewise outrebounded by the Tropang 5G that was without big man Poy Erram (meniscus tear on left leg), 49-48, had less assists, 11-19, outscored in both the paint, 36-34, and in second chance points, 12-20.

Ross gave credit where it is due.

"They (Tropang 5G) played a good game and we didn't," he said. "They were doing what they did and we didn't do what we do."

But the 40-year-old veteran from San Antonio, Texas knows how capable the league's winningest franchise is from bouncing back following a loss.

"After a loss, we find ways to bounce back and Friday will be no different," stressed Ross, who finished Game 5 with six points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
