Beermen look to wrap up series in Game 5

GLORY is within sight but the San Miguel Beermen are staying grounded as they prepare to wrap it up against the embattled TNT Tropang 5G in Game 5 of the PBA Philippine Cup finals on Wednesday.

"Ayaw namin pangunahan kasi marami pang pwedeng mangyari. Basta kami, gagawin namin yung best namin. Sana makuha namin sa Wednesday," said SMB megastar June Mar Fajardo. "Pero alam naman natin kung gaano kagaling (ang) TNT, magba-bounce back 'yun, try nila ipanalo yung game, pero kami, try din namin i-closeout."

After losing a drama-filled Game 1, Fajardo and the Beermen have unleashed a fiery counter-attack against the grand slam-seeking Tropang 5G and took the next three matches, the last two in lopsided fashion.

And now, the Beermen are in prime position to take their old status as the Alpha Team of the league's centerpiece conference while denying TNT its Triple Crown with a fourth win on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

"The closeout game's the hardest but we got a lot of veterans in that locker room," noted seasoned guard Chris Ross.

"Boss Al (SMC sports director Alfrancis Chua) told us to stay grounded, keep your feet on the floor. So, we know that the job's not finished and we're going to go into Wednesday like we need to win this game," he added.

"So, we're going to prepare Monday, prepare Tuesday, and we're going to try to put our best foot forward on Wednesday." (OL)
