MONTALBAN - NLEX obviously got a big break when Blackwater played without Sedric Barefield and lost Christian David to injury during their PBA Philippine Cup game at the newly-built Ynares Center II here.
Road Warriors coach Jong Uichico admitted the absence of the Bossing's top two offensive options was a breather for the Road Warriors, who registered their third straight win, 80-72.
Barefield was out with a hamstring injury, while David sprained his ankle just four minutes into the game.
Uichico specifically pointed out to Barefield's absence as a stroke of luck especially after preparing well against the no. 2 overall pick in the last draft.
Barefield averaged 18 points per game in four outings with the Bossing this conference.

"Malaking bagay na hindi naglaro si Barefield kasi baka yun pa ang naging problema namin, e" said Uichico.
"Ilang araw kami nagpa-practice para kay Barefield. Minsan nagugulo ka rin e, minsan yung player nagugulo rin. Pinag-handaan mo si Barefield, tapos yun pala hindi maglalaro. Minsan nangyayari yun."
Not that the NLEX coach is complainining.
"Hindi ko sinabi na nakakabuti. Nakakagulo," Uichico stressed.(RG)
