PBA brings action to Bahrain in December

THE Philippine Basketball Association will bring the action to Bahrain in December.

This was jointly announced by PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial and Bahrain Basketball Association President Alaa Mudara in a press briefing at halftime of Game 5 of the Philippine Cup finals Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Marcial said three PBA clubs will go to the West Asian country to play official games of Season 50 on December 15 and 17 there.

"We're very happy to host the games in Bahrain," said Mudara, a former Bahrain national player who played at the Big Dome in the late 1970s.

"We've done it (host Filipino ballers) in the past, a few national team games but this time, we're going to have PBA teams for PBA fans to enjoy, especially Filipinos who can't come to the Philippines to watch the games."

Mudara, who was accompanied by BBA officer Abdullah Malabes, whose son Bader played for La Salle, said the PBA games will coincide with the celebration of Bahrain's National Day on Dec. 16.

The Bahrain gig will serve as the second overseas outing for the PBA next season, with Dubai hosting the first salvo in the third week of October.

Marcial said the touring teams will still be finalized.

"We'll still check the schedules first but we already signed the contract (for the hosting)," he said.

According to Marcial, games in Bahrain will be played primetime there.
