PBA USANA fun run draws record 3,000 runners

THE PBA USANA Fun Run fires off on Sunday with a record 3,000 runners participating in the event held for the first time in six years.

Players, coaches and officials of the league's 12 member ballclubs will also take part in the fun run presented by ARENA Plus and Amazing Thailand and co-presented by SKECHERS.

Valuable items and gift certificates await the winners (male and female) in the four categories, namely, 10K, 5K, 3K and 1K dog run.

The event fires off at 5 a.m. at Bridgetowne Destination Estate in Quezon City.

"Ang tagal na since noong huling fun run natin at record ito na may pinakamaraming participants. Hindi natin akalain kaya nakakatuwa. Tulad nga ng sinasabi ni chairman Ricky (Vargas), bumabalik na sa normalcy ang PBA. Nakabalik na 'yung fun run tapos mago-opening na tayo at may out-of-towns na rin. Tuloy-tuloy na," said PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial, who will take part in the 3k run.

Vargas and Barangay Ginebra governor Alfrancis Chua will also grace the event in partnership with Robinson's Land and Bridge Towne.

The PBA Fun Run has been shelved for six years due to the pandemic and compressed schedule of Asia's first professional league.

Proceeds of the event also supported by Blackwater, Phoenix, NLEX, Motive, Pascual, Gatorade, JB Sports, Rain or Shine, LGR, Maynilad, Fitter and Katinko will help fund various Alagang PBA projects.

Since its establishment 12 years ago, the PBA Fun Run has been a vehicle of change for charitable causes and fund-raising projects, especially for Filipino children through the Alagang PBA program.

One of the Alagang PBA beneficiaries through the years was the Cancer and Hematology Center of the Philippine Children's Medical Center, which became a recipient of the four chemotherapy machines on top of additional bedding, fixtures and equipment for the chemo rooms of the Center.
